Stirrup Mania

If you're watching the game tonight you'll probably notice that Jose Cruz Jr. is wearing his pants high and the 70's style stirrups. In fact he's wearing them the way his Dad wore them for the Astros.

You don't see too many players wearing that style of stirrups anymore as they opt for the lower arch or the solid sock

Still, up in the booth, we love the players that wear the classic stirrups. The picture of Kevin Millar is pretty good but its nice to see a player with Jose Cruz Jr., the son of a Major Leaguer, showing some respect to the style of the past. Even if it is with the way he wears his stirrups.

  • Hi Mark and Matt: Hey, what is up with the flags on the right sleeve of the Padres camouflage (sp) uniform being backwards? Like the stirrups.

We will be at the game tonight behind first base so we will greatly miss your commentary! :( Sandy and Jim

  • You have any of Mud's old stirrups up there? I sure could use a slingshot...

  • I love the stirrups... I always liked seeing Robert Fick looking a little throwback with his stirrups... now we have Jose Cruz Jr. keeping the stirrups alive on the Padres!!

I also wanted to take a minute to tell you guys how comforting it is for me - especially now - to be able to watch Channel 4 SD and all the Padres games on 4SD.

I just moved to Las Vegas over a week ago and I was pretty bummed out that I wasn't going to get 4SD and any of the Padres games. At that point MLB Extra Innings wasn't even going to be an option since Cox and MLB hadn't signed any contract. Plus, as a rep from Cox informed me, even if I got MLB E.I., they wouldn't show Padres games. I was pretty bummed out, as a SD hometown girl.

So on opening day when the Pads were up in SF I was going through my Cox channel guide... and I was shocked to discover that somehow Cox here in Vegas had put the live feed of 4SD and the opening day game on one of the Cox tutorial channels. Every day since opening day I've been able to watch the Padres on Channel 4 and I can't tell you how happy I am!! I got a little taste of home, plus now I won't miss my Padres and Matt and Mud's excellent commentary that I've grown accustomed to and love. The only thing I can't do is use my A, B, or C buttons on my remote to vote for the player of the game... a small sacrifice I guess.

Thank you Channel 4SD and the Padres for making an uprooted San Diego girl feel right at home for the 2007 Season!! Let's go Padres!!
