For military families, saying goodbye and being apart from a loved one who is about to be deployed can be one of the toughest emotional challenges. And then there’s the tearful and joyful homecoming, when families are so overwhelmed with emotions they forget to pull out the camera. That’s where Operation Love Reunited comes in. The foundation connects up local photographers with families to capture their deployments and reunions in photographs.

Then and Now: Julian

Julian, in the backcountry mountains, is known today for its apple orchards and apple pies. But it was the discovery of gold in 1869 that caused Julian to become a boom town. We’ll trace the rich history of the town and the Julian Hotel, the oldest continuously operating hotel in Southern California. With old photos from the San Diego Historical Society we’ll see the difference between Julian “Then and Now.”
